What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?
How often have you asked children this question?
Have you ever encouraged them to be saints? What would the world be like if we encouraged children to be saints? Everyone is capable of being a saint. It is a can-do job. Jesus calls each of us to be a saint. A saint is a witness to the love that God has for each of us. A saint is one who knows and loves Jesus Christ so much that their goal is to share this love with others and live the way Christ teaches us.
The church holds up canonized or official saints as examples for us to follow. Saints are from every country, every race, every age, old, young and inbetween. There are innumerable saints among our families and friends who we treasure for the love they have shared with us.
This is what faith formation is all about. Parents of course have the primary responsibility of sharing the Catholic faith with their children. The parish is here to assist them. The programs we provide are here to support individuals, children, youth and families to grow in the love of God, share this love with others, and face the difficulties that our modern world presents to each of us.
This year in Generations of Faith our theme is the Bible. We will look at various aspects of the bible and see why and how it makes sense for us today. Find out why people say “the Bible tells me so.” We will have special presenters for the adults. The youth will view a video series, The Teen Timeline by “The Bible Geek”, Mark Hart. The elementary and preschool children will see the bible stories come alive.
Everyone will receive his/her own bible. We also encourage all students who are at the age to receive the sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation to register for classes. The sacraments give us strength during the critical moments in our lives. Registration is also open for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. See the insert in this bulletin for more information.
Pope Benedict and Pope Frances have called this year a ‘Year of Faith’ because they realize how important it is for us open our eyes to the treasure of faith in God that we have and what responsibility we have to grow in our faith and to pass it on to others. Don’t let your faith become stagnant, live it, share it — pass it on. Let’s aim to fill the world with saints.
