A. Today’s New Items
1. Fr. Patrick’s Holy Homework Take a little time to pray the “Seven Steps of Confession” and have a conversation with Jesus about the sacrament of confession.
2. Fr. Patrick’s Guidance on Going to Confession In Fr. Patrick’s homilies this past weekend he has encouraged us to consider going to Confession here in this Lenten season. During the 11:00 Mass he went so far as to demonstrate the confession process by acting out going to confession with our visiting priest, Fr. Joe. Fr. Patrick then offered us a handout that had the seven steps for confession and also some guidance on the “Examination of Conscience in the Light of Catholic Social Teaching.” Click on the following button to go to the handout with these two articles.
3. Fourth Sunday of Lent, Laetare (“rejoice”) Sunday
We are asked to rejoice in the passion, death and resurrection of Christ, since these acts reveal God’s love for us. Today’s Gospel includes the powerful and well known words about Jesus in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.”
4. New Crown of Thorns on our Barnwood Cross
This note came with the new Crown of Thorns: “Certificate of Origin. Thorn bushes grow abundantly in the Jerusalem environs. The monks of St. Catherine Monastery in Sinai are pointing out a thorn bush growing east of the large Monastery wall. This crown of thorns has been sanctified in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem.” Thanks to Carol Lawrence for making the purchase arrangements and to the team of three who arranged the purple cloth and the crown of thorns on our traditional barnwood cross.
