Gospel for Sunday, May 29th: Luke 24:46-53 Feast of the Ascension of the Lord
Fr. Patrick’s Holy Homework
Every day this week, read a chapter of the Gospels in the morning (begin with Mark if you’re looking for a fresh place to start!) and try to keep some of the words of Jesus from what you read close to your heart throughout the day. PS: the Holy Spirt will remind you!
Recognition for Graduates
On the weekend of June 11th and 12th Corpus Christi will be recognizing students who are graduating from 8th grade, high school, college, and technical or professional schools. They will be honored at our weekend Masses and in the parish bulletin. Please let Corpus Christi know of such graduates by contacting Carolyn Wilson by email at [email protected] or by a phone call to the parish office at 313.537.5770. Please report the name of the student, the name of the school from which they are graduating, and (if it applies) the name of the school they will be attending in the Fall. Please make that contact on or before Monday, June 6th.
Were you here at St. Gerard Parish way back in the 1970s? Sr. Jo McNamara, IHM -- RIP
Sr. Jo served on the pastoral staff here at Corpus Christi back when it was still called “St. Gerard Parish”. She had a talent for recruiting volunteers for parish tasks and committees. The smiling Sr. Jo had a special knack for the wording of her recruiting and many people became volunteers as a result. It was often said that “You can’t say ‘no’ to Sr. Jo!”
Sr. Jo died on May 18th at the age of 94. May she truly rest in peace!

Let us pray for the 19 students and two teachers who were killed in the school in Ulvalde, TX on Monday, May 24th. May those children truly rest in peace. May their families somehow find ways to come to peace with this tragedy. May our country somehow find ways to reduce … and even eliminate … such horrendous gun violence. Amen.
Let Us Pray for Vocations to the Priesthood
Detroit Archbishop Vigneron is asking the people of the archdiocese to raise prayers for more vocations to the priesthood. This request is accentuated by the news that will be no ordinations to the priesthood in the archdiocese this year, an event without prior occurrence.
What is up for the Children this Summer?
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is open during the Sunday 11:00 Mass for children 11 years old and younger. Children have the opportunity to discuss the readings at their own ability. Any child who can pay attention is welcome.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherdlevel 1 is open during the 11:00 Mass to children ages 5,6,7 years old who have not yet received First Communion. Please register to participate in this session.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word Activity pages are available in the back of church for elementary aged children. This takes the place of Gospel Weeklies during the summer.
“As the Father has sent me, so I am sending You”
Oh, me? I am being sent? Well, give it a little thought! Well, maybe more than a little. Perhaps we can mention how joyful were the Easter celebrations. Perhaps we can share one of those Corpus Christi invitation cards with a friend or family member. OR, maybe we could even consider trying one of the parish Evangelization efforts … once? … once a month? … once a week?
Would you like to get a bit more information on our CC Evangelization efforts? Here are some links to our parish website:
Currently, Tuesday evening is the time for both ministries, starting at 6:00 pm in church. We are discerning another day of the week for additional VON efforts.
Please Pray for …
