Sept. 25th– the 26thSunday in Ordinary Time Luke 16:19-31 The rich man and Lazarus
Fr. Patrick’s Holy Homework
This week I’d like to invite you to be shrewd with your time and do two things: 1 --ask for the grace to not waste time 2 – try to sit and talk with Jesus for at least 15 minutes a day. Bonus: check in with Him frequently.
A Note from Fr. Patrick
Healing Week One: Spirit & Life
This weekend Corpus Christi begins a seven week journey the Catholic Church is making statewide. In response to a tremendously dangerous proposal that will be on the ballot for the November 8th general election, the Catholic Church is engaging in seven weekends of prayerful reflections regarding the dire ramifications the passing of Proposal 3 would have on human lives in Michigan. The sacred reflections we are beginning this weekend aren’t separate from the Word of God, they are incarnations of the Word of God, crystalizing Catholic social teaching on the sacredness of life.
In chapter 6 of John’s Gospel, Jesus said, “the words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” From the calming of the storming sea to the healing of the paralytic, to the opening of the ears of the deaf and the eyes of the blind, it was clear: Jesus words have power. The most sacred food we will ever eat is still given to us by the power of His words, when at the altar we hear “take this all of you and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.” By the grace of God at work in the Sacrament of Holy Orders, the sacred power Jesus gives priests to cooperate with Him in turning bread and wine into His body and blood is released. The power of Jesus words in scripture, liturgy, faith, and morals continues to be transformative.
Jesus taught that, “if you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (Jn 8:31-32) Everywhere the love of Jesus flows, there is healing. In these weeks to come, the topics spoken of will be permeated with Catholic Social Teaching about the dignity of the person and the good of society. At the heart of social justice is helping the society we live in to be a more just society for all who live in it. For these reasons, I believe this series is a participation in the healing ministry of Jesus who came to save, heal, deliver, set free and make whole. (Mt 1:21)
The Catholic Church’s plan to focus on these sacred teachings as they relate to Proposal 3 in the weeks to come is about letting the power of the truth of God touch hearts and minds so we can help our state to be a more just and healthier place for all to live. This series isn’t about condemning people, it’s about the saving healing love of Jesus for all people. An important step on this journey at this time as disciples of Jesus who are citizens in Michigan is to prayerfully read up on Proposal 3. I would recommend grabbing the helpful materials from the Michigan Catholic Conference available at the back of Church, especially the two-page document, “An Analysis of Proposal 3’s Extreme Constitutional Amendment.”
Many excellent materials on Proposal 3 can also be found at this link:

The Eucharist is being exposed on the altar in church on the following schedule: Tuesdays: 6:00pm – 8:30pm [Note: that’s a usual time for our neighborhood Evangelization efforts so prayer support is appreciated!]
Thursdays: 9:15am – 12:15pm [Note: Holy Hour for Priestly Vocations from 9:15am – 10:15am]
One of the greatest treasures of the Catholic faith is the Eucharist. Ever since the Last Supper, the Catholic Church has believed that the Eucharist is truly the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. You are invited to come and spend time in adoration with Jesus at Corpus Christi as we begin to offer these new time slots for adoration. Ideally, we will have two people in the church before Jesus whenever adoration happens. On our parish website you will see two slots for each time. Please know that if the slot is filled there will still be plenty of room in church for you!
You can go directly to the adoration sign-up by clicking on the following button:
Our prayer list continues to grow for the deceased, the ill and the homebound. Please visit our parish bulletin for the current list on page 3. … and then raise a prayer for those on the list and your own special intentions. Simply click on the Bulletin button at the end of this email.
AND, please add to your list: “The prayer requests of those we have met during our Store Front Evangelization efforts and the Visiting Our Neighbors efforts”!
