Throughout the week practice making the Sign of the Cross while offering small prayers of love to each Member of the Trinity as a way of growing in devotion to the presence of God in your life.
2. Some of the Many Holy Trinity Symbols
Over the centuries artists and theologians have created symbols to help us grasp the great mystery of the Most Holy Trinity.
Let's take a brief walk through some of the many, many symbols used over the centuries.
Clearly, the most obvious symbol is something with three components. Oh, like a triangle? Yes! The basic starting point is that each of the three sides represents one person of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
If someone wished to use the triangle to describe the Trinity they may choose to put some words on the parts, like the artist did in the next diagram.
Oh, so each of the persons is God, but each of them is distinct from the other two!
Another and different starting point is to expand the circles for each of the Trinity members and place a sign in each circle instead of words. Here are two examples of that approach.
Another artist decided to go in a much more complex figure including the triangle idea we had at the start of the process.
Another artist went back to a different but simpler concept, just the three circles and the triangle.
This design leads to another concept, namely, the intersection area of the three circles, the interconnection of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Perhaps this looks familiar! Yes, it is the basic design for the photo at the beginning of this email.
Other artists have used a full circle to connect those intersecting partial circles as can be seen in the symbol below.
This symbol is known as the "Celtic Holy Trinity Symbol". One of the subsets of the Celtic people are the Irish and St. Patrick taught the Irish people about the Holy Trinity using a three leaf clover as seen in the next two symbols.
Interested? Intrigued? This is just the tip of the ice burg! You can do computer searches and come up with lots, lots more symbols.
Ah! Yes, the totality of the Lord is impossible to capture completely ... even though it can be fun trying to do it!
3. Prayers for our Military who Gave Their Lives for the USA
Maybe it was a close relative. Maybe it was a neighbor. Maybe it was someone we knew from school or work. They were, however, definitely willing and able to stand up for their country, even willing to die for their country. Here on Memorial Day let us take a moment to pray for them.
Pray a prayer of thanksgiving for them giving their lives. Pray that they may truly rest in peace.
4. VON/SFE – Join and/or Pray! – Tuesday – 6:30pm! Tomorrow, June 1st , we will be gathering in church for our fourth 2021 session of Visiting Our Neighbors (VON) & Store Front Evangelization (SFE). At 6:00pm we will form our teams, give out materials to be left at homes, and discuss which team will take specific streets to the west of Lahser and north of 7 Mile. The teams will be mixtures of twos or threes. We also will be preparing for a team to stand outside a grocery store to offer prayers for people. At 6:15pm we will pray for the efficacy of the VON and SFE teams. At 6:30pm it is “hit the streets!”
YOU are invited to join us in prayer in church (6:30pm – 8:30pm) orin your place of choice. If it appears that the Lord is tapping YOU on the shoulder to visit homes or storefronts with us, don’t hesitate to come into church by 6pm so we can fit YOU into a team. Questions? Please feel free to contact Dcn Paul at [email protected].
5. Prayers, Please, for Priests/Deacons Retreat, June 2nd – 3rd The priests and deacons of the parishes in our new Family of Parishes will be on a retreat together this Wednesday and Thursday. They will be prayerfully reflecting on how they are being called to become and acts as members of our new family. Please pray for blessings on the retreat and the actions flowing from there.
6. Thank You Boy Scouts and Families for Campus Spruce-Up!!
Norman Klawender, Jr. (Our Lady of Sorrows), Vitaliy Koponen (Corpus Christi), and Nate Zerbonia (St. Fabian) planned a service project as part of the Pope Pius XII Boy Scout Religious Emblem program. The program was yesterday afternoon and we want to offer a huge THANK YOU for the efforts and results.
The “spruce-up” led to lots and lots of weeding along the north side of the parking lot by the school and a lot of work around the front of the church building, mostly the removal of trash, weeds and dead plants.
Let’s try to get those thanks to all the identified working heroes:
Scouts: Vitaliy Koponen Norman Klawender, Jr. Nate Zerbonia
Families & supporters: Steve Koponen The Detroyer family: Dave, Carmen, Andrew, Annabella and Anthony Carolyn Wilson
