4. This Week’s Fr. Patrick’s Holy Homework Each day this week try to pray (and maybe even memorize) the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12 – see below)
The reason this particular scripture was chosen for our Holy Homework is because of the themes of covenant fidelity and purity of heart that are woven into the readings this weekend.
The Beatitudes show us a portrait of the countenance of Jesus, a countenance we are blessed to share in covenant fidelity to the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
THE BEATITUDES
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

How about that? Do you possibly know someone wondering about their faith life and looking for a church? Maybe they went to church in their youth. Maybe they had no faith life. Maybe they are searching. Maybe they are simply not happy with where they are in their life. Our Lord could be the one who can satisfy their needs, their longings, their cares. Yes, maybe they are considering about where to go and how to get there.
Please give some “prayerful discernment” to your possibly inviting a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor to our sessions that will be about one hour per week. There will be time for group sessions and for individual, personal meetings. Dcn Paul and Jeff Smale are leading the sessions. Questions? Feel free to give Dcn Paul a call at 248.891.9387 or an email at [email protected].
Note: No sessions on Sept. 5th
