I pray this email update finds you well! You continue to be in my prayers and I really look forward to the day we’re worshipping at Church together in person again. Here are a few updates:
The Archbishop has extended the dispensation from the Sunday Obligation until the feast of Christ the King, which falls Sunday, November 22nd. Essentially this means people don’t have to go to Church until at least Sunday, November 22nd. The idea of the Sunday obligation may seem archaic at this point. I wrote a little reflection about The Sunday Obligation and would invite you to check it out here.
Last weekend, Dcn. Aaron Poyer gave what I would describe as, “a seminal moment” homily. He did this a few months ago with a beautiful homily against racism after the murder of George Floyd. This last weekend, he focused on giving credible witness to Jesus in the public square, and particularly with civil discourse regarding politics (especially on social media). He also shared on prayerfully and thoughtfully forming our consciences as we prepare to vote. It’s a powerful homily that I highly recommend listening too and sharing. Dcn. Aaron 8.16.20 homily
Love & Blessings, Fr. Patrick .
2. Civilize It! Dignity beyond the Debate Communities of Salt and Light is a project of the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops). They have released a document encouraging all of us to “Civilize” our communications, especially in our use of social media. Dcn. Aaron referred to the document in his homily. 3. Links to new “Daily Devotional Series” Fr. Patrick has prepared a “Daily Devotional Series” that offers reflections on the Scriptures of the day. Each session is only 60 to 90 seconds long. You can access this daily by going to our website and clicking on “Daily Devotional Series”. You can also go directly from here by clicking on button below.
4. FORMED: What to watch this week: FORMED is one of the services provided by the Augustine Institute out in Greenwood Village, Colorado. 5. Bp Barron’s Question on Evangelization Bishop Robert Barron is a noted speaker in the Catholic Church here in the USA. He is brilliant and it’s a joy to listen to him speak!
