OVERVIEW:
For the second straight year, the SAYA Camp will be held at Christ the King Catholic School (16800 Trinity, Detroit, MI 48219). The camp will run from July 9th - August 3rd, Monday – Friday, 9am - 3:30pm. We will offer both morning and afternoon latchkey care and the weekly tuition is $50/per week, per child! We have scholarships based on need and we have a “multiple child” discount available also. Breakfast, a nutritious homemade lunch, and a snack will be served daily.
MISSION:
SAYA is an achievement program that provides youth with opportunities to engage in meaningful activities that foster a healthy mind, body, and spirit while developing skills and relationships that will help them be successful during their summer break and throughout life.
GOAL:
S.A.Y.A. (Summer Activities for Youth Achievement) is a four-week summer enrichment program for youth ages 5 to 11. SAYA began in 2003 at Corpus Christi Church (formerly Immaculate Heart of Mary Church) to address the need for a positive summer recreational experience for youth - regardless of race, religion, and/or residence. Since our inception, we have served more than 1,500 youth!
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES (ACTIVITIES):
We aim to demonstrate the value of good health, how to achieve it, and how to maintain it through:
Daily exercise
Nutritious breakfast/snacks
Healthy homemade lunch
Nutrition class
Personal hygiene presentations
Adequate water intake
We aim to engage our youth in sports and fitness activities to foster positive healthy relationships and team building skills through:
Volleyball
Soccer
Basketball
Flag Football
Band/Music Step
Free play
We aim to impart positive values including leadership, discipline, self-responsibility and new learning strategies through:
Anti-Bullying Mechanisms
Life Skills (drug resistance and social skills)
Money Management (earning, budgeting, and saving)
Reading enrichment/comprehension
Character Building/Motivational Talks
Making math fun program
We aim to expose youth to the Arts & Languages through:
Drama
Dance
Music
Spanish
Sign Language (ASL)
Offer opportunities for fun and enrichment with Field Trip Fridays
Encourage mentorship with the involvement of community members and past participants who return to volunteer and work in the program
